As 48th Republic anniversary celebrations were observed countrywide, the Regional Administration of Cuyuni-Mazaruni hosted a grand event at the Bartica Stelling square.

Addressing those gathered to witness the flag-raising ceremony, Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings said “Region Seven is on the move.”

The Minister emphasised that “all citizens should work with a single purpose to make Guyana a great nation, one which will produce the best of resources to the Caribbean and the world at large”.

“Over the years we have worked diligently as a people to achieve economic growth and a better standard of living. Though there have been challenges, Guyana continues to prevail as a nation. We are a nation of strong and irrepressible people,” Minister Cummings added.

Recognising Bartica as a model town for ‘Green development’, the Minister noted that “the ‘Green Economy’ is evident in Bartica, as she called on Barticians to embrace the ‘Green Agenda’ as touted by President David Granger. Minister Cummings called on them to play their part to ensure the bright prosperous future that beckons for Guyana is realised.

“We have to strive to play our part…I urge that instead of asking what the Government will contribute to your development, you continually ask and do what you can to make your community and Guyana great.”

Noting the efforts being employed to establish a green environment in the regional capital town, Minister Cummings said green communities are resilient and meet the essential needs of citizens. She also assured that the government will continue to provide programmes that will enable an environment that allows for economic stimulus, growth.

“We will ensure that we work towards a better future; a future in which no person lives in poverty, where there is work for all; a nation united in the vision of our Constitution, ” the Minister added.

Persons gathered were entertained with a cultural presentation that drew on the talents of a wide cross-section of Barticians. Several dedicated men and women of the Bartica Police, Bartica Hospital and the RDC were later recognised, and awarded for their outstanding and long-standing service. Seven of the nine regional delegates for the upcoming Bartica Regatta Pageant were also introduced to the gathering.
