The Parish of St. John-the-Baptist as it was named was dedicated in 1836, moved its present location in 1837 and consecrated in 1843. There was a little cemetery which was closed after the establishment of the now Sorrow (Sarah) Hill cemetery. This is the first church opened by missionaries which is located at Triangle Street Bartica.
