Thirty one years in the teaching profession has not only shaped Ms Carmel into the woman she is today but it’s just one of her many accomplished dreams. Alongside teaching, she is the Councilor of Constituency 6, a mother of one, a sports fanatic, Regional Vice President of Essequibo for the Guyana Teachers Union, and Auxillary Staff attached to the Bartica Fire Station, just to name a few. Hence, she has been referred to as “A woman of many hats” in one of Bartica’s newsletters. Williams attended the St John the Baptist Primary School, and later its Primary Top. Although she was unfortunate to attended secondary school that didn’t stop her from pursuing higher education. At age 16 in 1984 Williams attended Carnegie then returned home and to her surprise was given a position at the Bartica Secondary School as the Head of the Home Economics Department. She later went unto Cyril Potter College of Education where she majored in Home Economics and did a minor in Physical Education. In 2010 for the third time she ventured to the city to attend the University of Guyana. Ms Carmel is also known for her involvement in sports, as for a number of years she has been the Over Forty Champions in the Teachers category at the National Teachers’ Champions and currently is an executive member on the Guyana football federation. As a councilor, Ms Carmel continues to work to see Bartica improve.

Message: In order for us to move Bartica forward we should have togetherness and cooperation. Let us pool our resources because it takes everyone to get involved to move Bartica up on a higher level.
